ESI -  curator of climate communications
A couple of additional agenda items:
Maria talks to executive committee in May - moderate amount of pressure; won’t be done by then — *we can contribute a roadmap
Goals and audiences for the platform - some of the agenda items will be informed by this
Timeline - current state, ideal future state, transitional process - thoughts on expectations from Maria or committee
Discussion about how to get involved with other groups, John in discussion with other partners that we can incorporate -
External partners are great, but it’s still MIT, not Edx
Love to partner broadly in productive ways and with diverse groups
How as a platform do we want to vet/moderate content on the platform?
How do we want to partner with external organizations?
Until we figure out the first question, hard to figure out the second
Is ClimateX one part, a featured part, of a broader platform; or climateX the portal
  1. Brand, etc.
  • approaching all these varieties of climate action stuff around MIT and consolidating them… big pitch being more exposure
  • Most partners will want a way to contribute
  • Create an object called “Sites” - a set of resources, relaying people to them; - within the vision of aggregation; John’s opinion - a link is the minimal and not particularly satisfying, would be good to have an actual object that’s been produced specifically for Cx; act more like a portal, repository
  • Additional / alternative solutions - RSS feed - the automation is helpful
  • Events calendar - have to get people in the habit of tagging events, etc. - part of the habit forming work can be handled manually
  • They would like the climate action site to go away and be replaced with this - as soon as this is a reasonable replacement
  • URL we’re planning to move to? Maria has control of climate action, climate change.mit - climate.mit@edu - some people take this to be very different things
*Timeline - what are we thinking about as far as timeline? Transition - get together and to an inventory of all of the intermediate stuff, lay that out; a phased / incremental approach — when do we migrate climate action site over to this? Might be pretty early stage…
  • Figure out the process of soliciting content, coordinate some of the outreach to faculty - can be difficult to get them to engage
Early April - new partnership between co-lab and Cx

A post-it exercise to put everything on a wall and start to sequence what makes sense - worth trying to schedule that sometime soon so that we can get a skeleton sense of a roadmap -
ESI is flat-out until April 24th
Merit in this community management step - shouldn’t wait to launch community guidelines - ESI doesn’t want to inherit this issue

Two configurations - who can publish; are comments open - totally comfortable with shutting down posting; don’t really see the value in posting; could be a mechanism - almost like a letter to the editor - really good comments, and then post that if they’re really good -
Collective intelligence thing - sometimes the crowd isn’t very smart… sort things by editors picks; then most popular - one of things we have to work through - commenting, etc.
ESI does want the interactive aspect of it *design challenge/solution * - teams that have discussion among themselves -
Come next meeting and lay out the configurations - just switches you can flip - spelling out different configurations and then you can do what you want

*What to do with Mothers out Front; kind of locks up our development queue in a way we’d rather not have - focus energy on Season 3 - no progress made on Mothers out Front - hit pause – offer to meet with them? Transition, at some point, we’d love to meet them - talk through what next steps are — can we wait and talk about the plans a little bit more - talking the summer at some point*
So who wants to write this email?

Internal partners - single sign on — anybody else out there that’d be worth doing this with? Proceed with single sign on

*EAPS - Ask a scientist/expert - like a lot — only reservation - expert/scientist are both charged in Cx - not quite sure what to call it

Short survey - assess MIT as a climate change messenger - to try to understand how we’re perceived - will be able to find out — might help inform this part of what it’s called - could be quite specific with who you’re reaching out to  — 97% of climate scientists agree thing is a very persuasive argument — *good thing to proceed with

*Right now, there’s no place at MIT where you can go to get Climate Change/Science 101 — something we can think about at some point, Emmanuel wrote a PDF - turn that into an interactive digital learning experience
Reach out to Kerry and ask if we can write a little post about the PDF and link to it

*John likes the survey things/questionairres at the end of pieces of content*
Defend a science thing that John’s apart of — defending Climate science — link to this, do things together
Here and reel - produce videos, testimonials, events, things that are deeply embedded in local community -
Hallow project - set of films by Emerson students
— Link these things to Climatex, keep us apprised of these things as they develop

*Week of April 24-25th — mini workshop - set aside 2 or 3 hours, Wednesday or Thursday
Send out Doodle poll
