This impressive thunderstorm blew over the surface of the ocean after gathering sand and dust over land.   Maritime conditions reportedly changed suddenly from calm, flat and glassy conditions to a 6.5-foot swell with winds around 45-miles-per-hour.  Maximum gusts were recorded at 63-miles-per-hour.  These photos were taken near Onslow.

Though the sight looks alien to us here in Massachusetts, these dust storms are normal in Australia for this time of year.
