Southeastern Brazil has been experiencing heavy rainfall, specifically the state of Minas Gerais. One city experienced 171 mm (6.7 in) in 24 hours, breaking a 110 year record. While rain is not uncommon for the region, the heavy rains due to a low pressure system have been disastrous for the area. Mudslides and floods have caused several deaths. The rain is expected to continue, though not as severe.
