An extremely unusual weather event in the last 20 years was a massive F1 rated tornado which ripped through the heart of Miami around 2PM on May 12, 1997. The tornado lasted for approximately 15 minutes and cut a path that was 8 miles long and between 30 and 150 yards wide through the Little Havana, Downtown Miami, Biscayne Bay and Miami Beach neighborhoods. With winds reaching 110 mph, this tornado cause the damage of $525,000 in property and the injury of 12 people.
Above is shown the path that the tornado took through Miami. This event is particularly bizarre because tornadoes through the Miami region are not usually as strong as this tornado. This tornado also occurred in a very densely populated region, which is very dangerous.
