The avionics bay assembly is usually the most complex part of a typical HPR. It usually does the following:

  • Holds airframe/body tubes together
  • Transfers recovery loads to the airframe/body tube
  • Initiate ejection charges
  • Log data

The assembly typically has:

  • A coupler with attachment points
  • At least one threaded rod to transfer loads
  • An altimeter/flight computer with sensors
  • A set of connectors, wires, and/or terminals which interface with energetics for deployment
  • Mounting hardware
  • Axial seals protecting the flight computers from the energetics
  • Radial vent holes for barometric sensors
