The avionics bay assembly is usually the most complex part of a typical HPR. It usually does the following:
- Holds airframe/body tubes together
- Transfers recovery loads to the airframe/body tube
- Initiate ejection charges
- Log data
The assembly typically has:
- A coupler with attachment points
- At least one threaded rod to transfer loads
- An altimeter/flight computer with sensors
- A set of connectors, wires, and/or terminals which interface with energetics for deployment
- Mounting hardware
- Axial seals protecting the flight computers from the energetics
- Radial vent holes for barometric sensors
