Overview

In order to scale beyond the 50g batches the team was making Charlie G. acquired a used Kitchen Aid mixer in July of 2016. When picking it up the previous owner noted the MIT shirt worn by Charlie and asked, "Are you going to use the mixer for cookies or science goop?" A truthful response was given, and this mixer has been making science goop ever since.

Modification

In order to safely be used with the mixing process the Kitchen Aid mixer was set to the lowest speed and all gaps were sealed with silicone. A hole was drilled and the mixer was then filled with oil to isolate electronics from the AP dust. The mixer is now turned on and off by using the power cable. This makes the mixer very prone to overheating heating. Care must be taken to watch motor temperature when the mixer is operated.
