The majority of rockets flown by MIT Rocket Team are Class 2 Model rockets under FAA FAR 101.41. These require a standing waiver from the FAA in order to launch. Many hobbyist groups in the northeast have already obtained waivers for launch sites and host frequent launches, which the team can attend. The team is now starting to utilize class 3 rockets.
