Thalia's space usage stats and graphs:

What and Where:

  • Stats spreadsheet is kept in Thalia's SVN. An outdated version is attached to this page. Updating it here is not practical. It should be updated every week or two and immediately saved to the SVN.
  • Stats are kept for all servers: you want the logs for isda-thalia7.mit.edu (otherwise known as server 7).
    • Server 7 is production (where the customer domains are).
    • Server 13 is staging
  • Logs are archived here: https://diswww.mit.edu/menelaus/thalia-dev/2509
    • Find the day you want
    • Copy the text, and paste into a plain text file.

To import the daily stats log into the stats spreadsheet:

  • Stats are automatically generated every day and sent, via Email, to a list of recipients. (See Qing to be added to this list.)
  • Save each Email as a text file.
  • Open the Excel spreadsheet.
    • Click "Import"
    • Select the "Text file" radio button (on the bottom).
    • Select the text file (import dialog will open).
    • Select the "Delimited" radio button.
    • In the "Start import at row:" field, enter the line number where you see "Domain: AP"
    • Click "Next".
    • Enter ":" (a colon) in the "Other:" field.
    • Click "Next".
    • Click the "Do not import column (Skip)" radio button. (You want to not import the left hand column.)
    • Click "Finish"
    • Select the radio button for "Existing sheet", and select the cell right under the appropriate date.
    • Click "OK".

To create a quarterly graph:

There is a blank graph in the Excel database.

To add a domain to the stats spreadsheet:

Any time a new Thalia domain is added, stats for it will be delivered beginning the day after it was created. Import and calculations will be all screwed up unless it is accounted for in the spreadsheet. This is not a particularly fun or quick process.

  • Add new rows for the new domain:
    • Go to the left-hand column of the spreadsheet.
    • Insert 10 new blank rows where the new domain resides alphabetically.
    • Add the row titles and the initials of the new domain.
  • Redo all the formulas:
    • Work on the left-most set of totals (at the very bottom of the sheet).
    • Double click on "Users"; the formula will appear.
    • Go to the formula bar at the top of excel.
      • =SUM(B194+B184+B174+B164+B144+B134+B124+B114+B104+B94+B84+B74+B64+B54+B44+B34+B24+B14+B4)
      • Notice that there is no "B154" in the formula.
      • Type in the missing value.
      • Click "Enter" on your keyboard.
      • Repeat this process for each value in turn: Users, Libraries, Albums, Slideshows, Saved Searches, Images, Total, Total Size.
  • Replace all the sheet formulas:
    • Select on column of totals.
    • Hover over the lower right-hand corner until you get the "cross" icon.
    • Hold down your mouse key; the icon will change to a little box.
    • Holding down your mouse key, drag to the right until you get to the end of the year.
    • Now you are ready to import with the new domain's data.
