Introduction

This article explains how to connect to the network, and provides some helpful information on accessing network resources.

Register Devices to the Network

Your Device

To register the device you are on to the network, go to http://nic.mit.edu/dhreg/bootstrap/ and then enter your computer's MAC address.

Another Device

If the above page does not work, or you do not have a browser, use https://nic.mit.edu/cgi-bin/hlreg. Enter the following information:

  • MAC Address: The MAC address of the device you are trying to register. Make sure you use the appropriate network adapter's MAC address.
  • Account Number: For most cases, this should be the CRE HQ's cost object
  • Account Contact (billing): Use the @mit.edu email address for someone that is authorized to use this cost object (e.g. Casey or Bettina if using CRE HQ)
  • Technical Contact: Use the @mit.edu email address for the IT Person registering this device. Question: Can we use a group email account?
  • Machine Owner: Use the @mit.edu email address of the person you are registering this device for.

Request a Static IP

If you wish to register a static IP address, go to https://ist.mit.edu/network/ip-request and follow the instructions there.

Notes

  • Enter MAC Address in the form of AA:BB:CC:DD:EE. Use semicolons, not dashes.
