Requesting a Static IP Address

To request a static IP Address, send an email to tnis-repl@mit.edu with the following information:

Hello,
I would like to please request a static IP address:
Machine vendor:
Model:
MAC Address:
Operating system:
Location:
Machine contact person:
Billing contact person:
Two suggested hostnames:
Institute cost object (account number) for tracking purposes:
Scope: Public (WAN Accessible) / Private (MIT LAN)
Thank you,

Notes/Considerations

  • It is (I think?) a good idea, when referencing services on other systems, to use DNS names rather than IP addresses, because typically the IP address subnet is based on the building the server is located in. If we need to move a client VM from a host in CRE HQ over to W91, it will be far easier to update a DNS entry than to update a number of different systems with a hard-coded IP address.
