This page outlines the process for thesis submission to the Center for Real Estate

  • MSRED Students will submit their theses in either Late July for September Graduation or Early January for February Graduation.
  • Dual-degree students will most likely submit in Early May for late May/early June graduation

Please refer to the following websites/pages for Thesis requirements and submission processes:

  • MSRED Students Site: Has information on thesis specifications, submission timelines, and related tasks.
  • Thesis Formatting Checklist - utilize this when reviewing a thesis' formatting for final submission
    •  Formatting is only reviewed after an advisor has indicated the content is 100% complete, has provided a grade, and there are no more content edits to be made.

Thesis Collection

  • Students no longer have to print their theses and submission is completely digital.
  • DUSP has an online thesis portal which we have access to but we have not been using.
  • For the past few cycles, students have received a Dropbox file request to upload their theses.
    • Another option is to make the RED.THG Canvas site active and collect via that portal.

Finalized student theses are transferred to the MIT Libraries by the Graduate Academic Administrator.
MIT Libraries shares an email with all Grad Admins at the mid-to-end of each semester detailing submission steps, processes, and reminders.

  • Thesis grade submission is done in the Online Grading System, under RED.THG
  • Thesis grades are only entered after the Grad Admin has approved all formatting and has the final paper from the student

Proration/Early Thesis

  •  Students who do not finish their thesis on-time (in one semester) must come off the degree list and register for the next semester.
    •  They are assigned a "J" grade which indicates that they have made satisfactory progress but are not ready to submit.
  •  Students must be registered for two consecutive semesters in order for tuition be pro-rated by the Registrar's Office.
    •  Students should add 10% to the pro-ration figures to match the 10% MSRED premium tuition.
    •  Only in a pro-ration situation will turning in a thesis early result in tuition charges stopping the day a grade is submitted.
    •  If a student is being pro-rated, it is essential that you submit their final grade the day they turn in the thesis to get the lowest tuition charge possible.
