Miriam Yoffa Rich, who worked for 41 years as a laboratory technician in what became the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, beginning in 1947 until her retirement in 1988, died Feb. 6, 2008. She was 88.

Born in Gardner, Mass., Mrs. Rich was one of 11 children born to Pearl B. and Joseph Yoffa. She lived most recently in Venice, Fla.; before that she lived in Brookline, Mass.

For many years, Mrs. Rich volunteered for the American Red Cross, the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, and the American Cancer Association. She was a wonderful dancer, consummate bridge player, and an avid news follower. Her tremendous sense of humor and zest for life will be missed by all her friends and family.
