Current Situation
We currently try to offer PE credit for the first half the class each fall (1st quarter PE). Someone is the PE Coordinator, and they are paid by DAPER to run the class. They take their own attendance of PE students and need to ensure that PE students dance every class tip during PE's official time 8:15-9:45 on Tuesdays. When PE is happening, they will attend class meeting and sometimes need to talk to PE students for a few minutes often about general health stuff (why sleep and eating well are important). Someone from DAPER will visit for one the classes; during this one, try to make it look like they're in charge.
We encourage PE students to stay for the review tip, come to walkthrus, and continue for the second quarter, but we should make it clear to them that these are separate from graduating PE.
What this means for the Class Coordinator
Before Week 1: Talk with the PE instructor to find out if they need anything from you; they're likely to need to have some class meeting time some weeks to talk to PE students
Week 1: the PE instructor will be next to you checking in PE students, and signing up people who want to take the class for credit. Even if they sign up there, they should also sign up with you.
Badges/Attendance: Share attendance lists with PE, in case there are any students who signed up for PE who did not sign up with you. On the badges for PE students, put PE in the corner. You may want to include notes about who's in PE on the attendance sheet. Also include a column for stayed for last tip as some PE students may leave when the PE class ends.
Later weeks: If people ask you questions about PE, either answer them if they're simple or direct them to the PE instructor. Give the PE instructor time to talk to the PE students. Remind any PE students who come late that they need to check in with the PE instructor as well as with you.
Week when DAPER visits: Let the PE instructor run the class more than usual. We want to look good for DAPER so we can continue the class.
Past
PE requirements used to be more laid back. We started offering PE in 2001.
