STATEMENT OF PURPOSE INSTRUCTIONS: Please submit a statement of purpose (no more than 2 pages, single spaced), where you describe your interest in the field of Bioengineering, your academic and research experience, your career goals, and how graduate studies at the University of Washington, Department of Bioengineering would help you achieve these goals. 

Statement of Purpose: Please describe your aptitude and motivation for graduate study in your area of specialization, including your preparation for this field of study, your academic plans or research interests in your chosen area of study, and your future career goals. Please be specific about why UC Berkeley would be a good intellectual fit for you.

Personal History: Please describe how your personal background and experiences inform your decision to pursue a graduate degree. In this section, you may also include any relevant information on how you have overcome barriers to access higher education, evidence of how you have come to understand the barriers faced by others, evidence of your academic service to advance equitable access to higher education for women, racial minorities, and individuals from other groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education, evidence of your research focusing on underserved populations or related issues of inequality, or evidence of your leadership among such groups.

Statement of Purpose: The statement of purpose is part of the online application. The statement of purpose is very important and is given careful consideration in the selection process. Be concise and specific in preparing your statement: give information that will aid the selection committee in evaluating your potential for completing a graduate program of study at UCSD.

Personal Statement: Write a statement (1-2 pages, single-spaced, in a 12-point font) indicating your purposes and objectives in undertaking graduate study, your special interests and plans, and your strengths and weaknesses in your chosen field. Briefly describe any research projects or any independent research in which you have actively participated and indicate how this has influenced your career choice and desire to pursue graduate studies.

Personal Statement: Write a statement (1-2 pages, single-spaced, in a 12 point font) explaining your interest in and objectives for pursuing graduate study. You may also wish to include other information, such as any undergraduate research experience, internships, or other experiences you have had to demonstrate your preparedness for graduate study in your chosen field. 

Diversity Statement: The Graduate School at Northwestern University considers having a diverse student population a key element to the educational experience of its graduate students. Diversity presents itself in many different forms such as: socioeconomic status, race or ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, nationality or place of origin, disability, unique work or life experience, etc. We invite you to use this space to tell us how you may contribute to the diversification of The Graduate School, your program and Northwestern University. The submission of this statement is optional for all applicants.

Personal Statement: Personal Statement #1 should outline your research interests and career goals. Describe your work and research experience, personal background pertinent to your application, leadership roles, and qualities that would contribute to the diversity of the program. At the end of Personal Statement #1, list any research publications on which you are an author.

Statement 2 (optional): Personal Statement #2 is an opportunity for you to provide a second statement on the topic of diversity. The graduate school application system automatically asks for this second statement, however it is not required for admittance. You may complete Personal Statement #2 if you would like to include an additional diversity statement.
