Introduction

MIT uses Zoom Phone for its voice infrastructure. With Zoom Phone, you get assigned a 10-digit phone number that you can use to make and receive calls like you would with any other phone number. Calls are placed and received within the Zoom Desktop App, the Zoom Mobile App, or a physical desk phone. You can also forward calls to your personal cell phone number.

Features

  • You get an MIT phone number, eliminating the need to share your personal phone number with colleagues.
  • During a Zoom meeting, you can add outbound calls to the meeting by calling their phone number. They will appear as another participant (without video).
  • Forward calls to a personal cell phone number. You can set this to be during business hours only, and disable forwarding during holidays. Forwarded calls will display your MIT phone number on your personal device's caller ID
  • Configure separate call handling rules for Business hours, Closed Hours, and Holidays
  • Voicemail to Email service.

Tips/Tricks

  • You can dial the last 5 digits of other MIT phone numbers to reach that extension (instead of dialing the full 10 digits)
