International Committee

This committee has been formed to welcome and to help acclimate international visitors to the Institution 
and the community. The Committee has produced ”The Handbook for International Visitors”, available at  http://www.whoi.edu/committees/international/Handbook/InternationalHandbook.pdfImage Modified. There are a limited 
number of bicycles available for international visitors through the committee (contact: Andy Beet x3376). 
Runs an English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring program (contact: Penny Foster x2294).

Women's Committee

Established in 1973, the Women’s Committee at WHOI is an elected committee responsible for considering 
matters of special concern to women. Its primary charge is to be a forum for the ideas and concerns of 
women associated with WHOI. Each member is charged to make herself aware of pertinent issues and to be 
accessible to the women around her, to better represent them in the committee. The eight-member 
committee represents all women at the Institution: Joint Program Students, members of the Scientific, 
Technical, and Exempt Administrative Staffs, and members of the Graded Administrative and Research 
Staff. Members of the Committee may be contacted by sending email to the Women’s Committee mailing 
list: womens-committee@whoi.edu (internal use only).

Gays, Lesbians & Others at WHOI (G.L.O.W.)

G.L.O.W. is a student-staff liaison support group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning 
members of the WHOI community and their allies. The group aims to provide a point of contact for people 
seeking information, support, avenues for addressing workplace issues, and social outlets. There are 
monthly informational and social meetings and all are welcome. A website is currently in the works and a 
mailing list has been set up for all individuals interested in receiving announcements, pertinent news, etc.

Diversity Committee

The primary charge of the WHOI Diversity Committee is to aid the Institution in its efforts to recruit, retain 
and mentor a diverse community of employees, students and postdoctoral researchers.
