Hydrostatic Testing

Hydrostatic testing is when we pressurize our motor case with water to test the seal of our hardware at high psi. Hydrostatic testing allows us to determine the pressure thresholds of our design and give us a chance to calibrate any sensors or Data Acquisition Systems (DAQ) before static fires.

...

  • Put Teflon tape on the pressure transducer and set up the load cell or any other transducers you may have.

  • Use your hands or some tools to tighten/untighten the bolts of the test stand as needed.

  • Hit stakes into the ground with a hammer or mallet.

  • Attach our ratchet straps to the test stand and stakes (don’t tighten yet).

  • Attach our transducer wires to the DAQ in its protective box.

  • Set up the cameras.

  • Place the motor in the test stand and attach the transducers.

  • Begin to tighten the bolts as needed to secure motor.

  • Start to tighten the ratchet straps till the stand is snug in place.

  • Begin collecting data as a test (just checking that DAQ works).
