This is the home page for the Mobile Devices at MIT space. In general, mobile devices are defined as either PDA's (Personal Digital Assistants) or Smartphone devices that combine cell phone with PDA capabilities. Contents for additional mobile devices such as wireless data cards and UMPC (ultra mobile personal computer) may be found here.

The goal of this Wiki is to share information about using various mobile devices at MIT (including those that may not be supported by IS&T). Please feel free to add/edit any of the sub pages with relevant information that might be useful to the MIT community.

Warning: IS&T currently provides support for Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices only. If you are using devices other than those running Palm OS, IS&T may not be able to provide help. A Mobile Devices Release Project is currently underway to provide full support for Windows Mobile devices by summer of 2007.

Palm OS devices have been popular at MIT. However, the future of the OS is uncertain as Palm OS had been virtually at a stand-still since 2004 with the exception of minor updates. Most industry experts believe that the Palm OS will phase out over the next couple of years. Users considering purchasing new mobile devices is advised to seek alternate devices such as Windows Mobile devices.
