  1. Secure the blank in two vises.
  2. Set the speed to 5000 rpm, and the feed to 2 ipm.  (3 is not friendly, just stick to 2)
  3. Turn on the coolant. (Make sure to check levels and refill according to the procedure on the Deep website if you're in the Deep)
  4. Plunging .030" at a time, cut the slot. Power feed is your friend.
  5. Once you have reached the desired depth, test the slot width with the Fin Preform. Run .005" finishing passes until it fits snugly. 
  6. Replace the end mill every 2-3 fins.

  1. Tilt the mill head to 15 degrees.
  2. Tram the vise perpendicular to the mill table.
  3. Clamp the LE in soft jaws that extend out beyond the vise. 
  4. Secure the 1/4" Carbide End Mill in the machine.
    1. Make sure to have the edge finder and the end mill in the same collet (R8) to make your life easier
  5. Set the speed to 5000 rpm and the feed to 5.4 ipm.
  6. Set the Z to the final dimension and work the Y in .090" per pass. (Five passes plus a finishing pass)
  7. Perform a .005" finishing pass.
  8. Flip the fin and machine the other side.
  9. Replace the end mill every 2-3 fins.
