Grading

Entering Grades by Students and Assignments

There are two ways to enter grades in the Gradebook: by students and by assignemtn.

  • Entering grades by assignment: This porcedure uses the Grade Summary/ASsignmnet pgae, which lists all student for one assignment. This page is particularly useful for entering several grades for he same assignment. You can also approve grades on this page.
  • Entering grades by students: This procedure uses the Grade Summary/Student page, which lists all assignments grades for one student. In addition to entering a grade, you can also send an email or post a comment to the student.

DIRECTIONS to ENTER a GRADE:

  1. Click Gradebook in the Navigation Bar.
  2. Click either:
    • Students in the Gradebook Navigation Bar and choose the student whose assignments you want to grade
    • Assignments in the Gradebook Navigation Bar and choose the assignment you want to grade all students for
  3. Enter the grade (s) in the Points column.
  4. Click (Image-UPDATE) to save the grades.
    Stellar highlights any grades that need to be updated; you can click the update button after entering each grade or the update all grades button.

Optional on Grade Summary/Student page

  • Send an email to the student: Click the student's name under his or her photo.
  • Post a comment to the student's Grade Report: Enter the comment in the Comment Text box and click save.Note: The comments are not linked to specific assignment but rather to th student's work in general.

Tip: If you are also approving grades, click the Approve button for each grade you want to approve. To approve all grades, click the Approve All button. Once a grade is approved, it appears in the student's Grade Report.

Note

  • If an 'X' is entered into a grade field, that grade is ignored and is not counted towards the final grade.
  • Grades can be 'cleared' by removing the grade and hitting update.
    • Null grades cannot be approved
    • Null grades are treated as "not yet entered" in the dashboard and will cause any assignment that contains one to appear in the first column of the dashboard.
    • Null grades will appear as "cleared' in the grade history.
  • In order for students to view their approved grades the Student Display box must be checked in the Configure part of the Gradebook.

Grade Summary Assignments Page

Contains information about All Assignments added or imported to the Gradebook. Information consists of Assignment: title, download and upload options, class graph, due date, maximum points, average, and weight.

The SUMMARY/GRADING TABLE form details the Student roster where grade information is entered and maintained for an assignment. Instructors can:

  • Enter or modify grades in the Points column (click  to save the grades).
  • Approve grades.
  • View a grade's history by clicking the  icon.
  • Edit or delete the assignment.

To view an assignmnt's grade SUMMARY/GRADING TABLE:

  1. Click Gradebook in the Navigation bar.
  2. Cilck Assignmnts in the Gradebook Navigation bar.
  3. Click on the assignment you would like to view the grade summary for.

The SUMMARY portion of the page displays the assignment's title, due date, maximum point value, class average, weight percentage, chart icon linking to a graph of student points for an assignment, and ratio showing the number of students who have been graded.

The GRADING TABLE portion of the form shows the name of each Student, the SECTION each Student is assigned to (when applicable), the grade HISTORY icon, the POINTS, the ADD MAKEUP GRADE icon, and the GRADE STATUS.
Clicking the graph icon displays the recorded point values as a bar chart.



Sorting and Navigation Tips

  • Change the sort order of the Grading Table by clicking the Student Name, Section, or Points column heading.
  • Click the Summary previous or next arrow to display the summary for another assignment.
  • Click a student's name to display the Grade Summary/Student page.

Note

  • The DELETE button is unavailable once a score has been assigned to any student in the course.
  • Stellar displays weight percentages only if they are specified in the Gradebook configuration.
