Configuring Email via BlackBerry.

I've written up the steps that I took to configure my device to read MIT email. I did this after activating the device. However, when I went to set up my BIS account via the Verizon site (https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw), I was unable to create an account. First I was told that my device was registered under a different service provider. Most recently, I'm informed that I can't access the BIS through the web. We're working on this.

So I ended up configuring email on the device. Here was my experience:

On your Blackberry:
Go to Applications then E-Mail Settings and click on Add a new email account.
You will be presented with the following text:

"To add an email account, complete the following fields:

Email Address username@mit.edu
Password "password"

• Roll the cursor over the space provided to enter the information.
• Enter email address in all lowercase. **hint: use the space bar to auto insert the @ and the .

Click Next
You will be presented with the following text:

"We were unable to configure user@mit.edu. Choose one of the following options and select Next."

check the circle next to: "I will provide the settings to add this email account"
scroll to the bottom and click Next.

Once again you will see "We were unable to configure user@mit.edu."
and
"Select the type of account you want to configure:"
Check the circle next to "Internet Service Provider Email (POP/IMAP)"
Click Next.
You will be presented with the following text:
"Select the option that indicates the way you access this email account:"
Check the circle next to "I will provide the settings to add this email account"
Click Next.
You will see "The BlackBerry Internet Service could not configure user@mit.edu email account." don't panic
Click on Provide the Settings
You will be presented with the following text:
"To configure this email account, complete the fields below"
Enter Email address, Username, Password,
Email server: enter user.mail.mit.edu (where user is your kerberos username)
Click Next.
If you entered your information correctly, you will see the following text:
"You have successfully configured access to user@mit.edu."
Click OK

Go to applications> Find your new email account. You should see an email from the Activation Server informing you that the account has been successfully created on the device. You will begin to see new messages after 20 minutes.
