This initiative consists of several parts:

  • The immediate goal is to implement an Alfresco WCM infrastructure in preparation to support the future version of the IS&T department website
  • Investigating the viability of offering Alfresco WCM as a general service to the MIT community

There has been a desire for MIT to choose an enterprise content management system. This goal is very vague, because content management can mean so many things - it is a widely misused term. In looking at MIT's exact needs, the following are the categories of content management that MIT has an interest in pursuing:

  • Enterprise document management - A centralized document store which is shareable across a community
  • Web content management - A specialized application of document management focused on web content management
  • Digital asset management - A centrailized storage for large quantities of digital resources, mostly images, but including other media types like video and audio

The Design Notes section contains various notes of use to developers and architects.
The Project Documentation section contains various project management documents.
