Our processing computers have an optical disk drive for CDs and DVDs (the FRED can also handle Blu-ray discs). If you are using a different computer without an optical disc drive, or the internal drive is not recognized, use the USB connected disc drive. If you have a large bunch of optical discs you can try using the Nimbie Autoloader, however is does not work well for all disc types.
USB optical drive or internal drive
If using the USB connected disc drive, plug it into your computer (the remaining steps are the same for either drive).
Press the small rectangular button on the front of the drive and it should pop open.
Place the disk label-side up on the tray, matching it up with the circular part of the tray.
Close the tray until you hear it click shut.
Proceed to the proper imaging and transfer section for how to transfer the actual files.
Nimbie Autoloader
- This device is set up for use on Processing Computer #2
- It should already be plugged into the power outlet
- Make sure the blue USB cord is plugged into one of the computer's USB slots
- Turn on the drive by flipping the switch on the back of the device.
- Open the hinged top of the Nimbie and place the discs label-side up onto the circle from first to last, in other words place the disc you want read first into the circle holding slot first, etc. The discs are loaded from bottom to top.
- If you have more than 20 discs, you will need to insert the three extension arms (stored in the hinged lid).
- To insert the extender rods, insert them aligning the cross shape with the hole and then rotate to the right a quarter turn to lock each rod in place.
- With the extender rods, the Nimbie can handle 100 discs in the loader area.
- You can now proceed to the ImgBurn section for details for how to create disc images. The Nimbie will eject the discs when complete into the circle container in front of the device.
This is more than eject circle container in the front of the Nimbie can container, so you will need to empty it every 20 discs.
Warning
The eject process is not always gentle on the discs. There are two things to keep in mind:
- The eject circle container in the front of the Nimbie can only hold 20 or so discs. If working with more than that, you will need to empty it every 20 discs.
- Nimbie will eject "bad" discs (ones that it can't read) through an eject slot in thebottom of the machine. There is no included container to catch these, which may result in these discs hitting the desk and falling on the floor. As there is limited room under the machine, there is a CD jewel case to catch these discs. It will need to be emptied for every 2-3 discs ejected this way.
