These instructions are for iPhone users running iPhone 2.0 software:

To Determine which version of the iPhone software you are running..

1) On the iPhone, go to Settings, then select General.
2) Select About.
3) To the right of Version, if you iPhone's software version.

If you are running v1.1.4, you will need to connect your iPhone to iTunes and select "Check for Update". This will update your iPhone from the older software to the newer software. This will also allow you to take advantage of the Full Erase feature, which is not available in earlier versions of the software.

On your iPhone running Firmware iPhone 2.0 or higher:

Select Settings
Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Select Add Account...
Select Other

Name: Your Name
Address: username@mit.edu
Password: yourpassword
Description: MIT Email (this can be whatever you'd like, it describes the mail account)

Select Save

In the new screen, make sure IMAP is in blue.

Your Name, Address, and Description should of carried over from the previous screen. If not fill in the information.

Under Incoming Mail Server:

Host Name: username.mail.mit.edu
User Name: username
Password: yourpassword

Under Outgoing Mail Server:

Host Name: outgoing.mit.edu
User Name: username
Password: yourpassword

Select Save

You may receive a "Secure Connection Failed" prompt, if so click Continue. This is a standard certificate prompt, the connection will still be encrypted via SSL.

Once the iPhone has communicated with the Mail server to verify your settings, you are done. To access your mail, go back to the Home screen and select the Mail icon. (thumbs up)
