Summer 26 Weekly Meeting

This meeting, we heard a lot of new updates from Aleks about the state of the LEONIRD mission, as well as confirmation of the continuing progress of ETHER. Aleks reiterated the large cost of the launch which stresses the need for sponsorship. He also mentioned we already have a donor willing to provide 1-2k, which would likely cover costs for the remainder of the summer and the beginning of the fall. Another important update for LEONIRD is that the Argus team is currently redesigning the Argus boards that we will be using, and they want our input in the electronics and mechanical redesign. The second half of this meeting was used to discuss onboarding, which included discussion of meeting dates and times.

  • ETHER --
    • The project timeline and BOM are currently being finalized, and we are about 50% complete with the project. A date for PDR will be set soon.
  • LEONIRD --
    • The mission requirement outline is currently underway, and sub teams will be created by the beginning of the coming semester.
    • For now, we want to help the Argus team with their redesign of the board. They specifically want help with the batteries and the solar panel circuitry. We also know that we don't want to use the jetson board, which is what the 4 cameras interface with. We want to see if we can use an event based camera in place of one of the other cameras, so we will have to figure out how to add that in while excluding the jetson board.
    • There's currently about 2/2.5 cm of space left in the satellite, which is about a quarter of the entire cube. This potentially gives us enough space to add our own payload if we want to.
    • Our immediate tasks are to help with the Argus redesign and to continue trying to get FPrime on the existing boards.
  • Onboarding --
    • We discussed the general timeline for onboarding and decided what trainings would happen when. We want the first week to be an introductory week where the new members get to know the team and their project, so we want to have a good presentation for the first week. We also want to have them decide on a theme for the project to help them stay engaged.

Aleks has created a purchasing form that members can use to submit requests for purchasing materials.
