Summer 26 Weekly Meeting

Today's meeting included updates for both LEONIRD and ETHER, with ETHER facing a couple of setbacks but still making gradual progress. With LEONIRD, we are still discussing the Argus redesign and the satellite's overall design, including a potential payload. The onboarding timeline was also discussed, with plans to move the first official meeting to before class starts.

  • ETHER --
    • Cryogenic fluids are not permitted on parabolic flights, so we will have to seek alternatives. Most other work hinges on the motor selection, which will have to be decided on soon.
  • LEONIRD --
    • Liam, Armaan and Aleks had a discussion with Neil earlier in the day to talk about the needs for the Argus board redesign. Neil highlighted the biggest need is in the circuitry and power distribution.
    • Given that we will not be using the Jetson board, we will have at least 25% of space remaining, which provides an opportunity to add a payload. There are some options on the table, including a star tracker and an antenna for inter-satellite comms. Aleks requests that several members of the team do research on the following topics:
      • Using FPGA instead of Jetson
      • Inter-satellite comms
      • Star tracker feasibility
      • FPrime automation
      • Other possibilities for a payload
  • Onboarding --
    • We would like to be as prepared as possible when the semester starts, so the goal is to have everything planned by the August 25th meeting to ensure the HAB project goes smoothly for everyone with minimal stress. This includes having presentations ready to go, ordering everything ahead of time, and having all planning in place before the launch date. We went through the introductory slideshow and narrowed down the key topics to include.
    • There is a proposal to have official meetings start on September 5th rather than the 12th in order to get started right away.
