Website and Documentation Review

Jennifer and Arnie are overseeing the review of Sercat documentation on our website, primarily the Policies and Procedures page.

Jen proposed this plan (9/17):

What needs to be done:

  • Review Sercat documents and decide what to keep/update and what can be tossed (or archived)
    • just Policies/Procedures page
    • divide into categories: general cataloging, local Aleph procedures, e-resources
  • Distribute pages to be updated to staff--who does them and how?
  • Develop plan for writing updates (docs or on wiki?), converting to HTML (if needed), uploading to web
  • List/brainstorm topics, documents, policies, etc. need to write/create/develop
    • develop plan for who will write, convert, upload
  • Review Staff Web, SerAcq, Processing, Monocat other pages for policies and procedures written by other staff/units that we want to link to

Meet weekly?

Try to get updated documents done by the holidays?

We set up weekly meetings, on Weds. at 9:30, starting 9/23.

9/23 meeting notes

Jen had marked all the documents that SerCat wrote with paw prints to make them easier to identify.

Arnie and Jen looked at each of these documents and decided which ones could be updated (and the best person to do that), which can be deleted (archived), and which need to be investigated further (policy still valid?, written elsewhere?)

We also came up with an idea for how to arrange the updated page: section 1: Sercat policies and procedures; section 2: links to other Libraries policies and procedures (seracq, processing, monocat, etc.); section 3: links to outside sources (CONSER, MARC, etc.)

There are three methods we can use to update the pages: in HTML; Word docs with screenshots (then convert to HTML); on the wiki (then convert to HTML)

9/30 meeting

agenda: review Monocat , Collection Services , Processing , and Serials Acquisitions pages for items we want to link to

We looked at the pages above and decided on some pages we can link to (as "Instructional materials" or "FYI" sections?).

After looking at the MCU documentation, we thought it would be a good idea to write up a summary of our (SerCat) physical processing policies and procedures.

After our meeting, Arnie learned from Melissa that the Processing website is being updated, and that Maria should be our contact.

Jen will put together new page incorporating all of the above.
