DRS continues to participate in and act as a hub for data issues in support of various Institute/Enterprise projects. Major projects for DRS are RAFT (MITBI – Reporting & Forecasting Tool), the MIT and AAUDE Data Warehouses, Managed Data Services, MITID Database, Roles and Reporting & Consulting Services.  A key member of our team, Jim Repa officially retired on June 30, 2010.

RAFT (MITBI – Reporting & Forecasting Tool)

DRS has been working closely with representatives from 16 Departments, Labs and Centers and other groups across IS&T (CSS: Usability & Accessibility and Documentation & Training, and OIS: Server Operations and Database Services). During Q4 Phase II requirements gathering, review and prioritization was completed and approved by the steering committee.  Requirements are currently waiting approval from our sponsor., The initial forecasting design was completed and the development process has begun.

DW Reporting Tools Project

This project was started last quarter.  The focus is to select a easy to use reporting tool to replace BrioQuery. 30 members o the community sat through 3 vendor presentations and participated in 3 hands-on workshops. We are currently in the final review and recommendation phase.  We expect this work to be complete and a recommendation made to senior management in FY11 Q1.

MIT Data Warehouse

The Data Warehouse team has made many changes in support of the enterprise systems during Q4. 

We participated in and completed modifications required to extract and load processes In support of the SAP Hardware upgrade project. Including modifications to over 100 SAP extracts to resolve Unicode conversion issues.

In support of HR/Payroll data work included the addition of Accounts Payable addition of ACH garnishments and the implementation of access control for historical payroll edacca data, which will be rolled out to the community in July,

In support of VF Office data work included the design and implementation of travel data from the Concur System.  This data is currently in user acceptance.

In support of Student systems work included expanding the data feed program to feed student degree data to National Student Clearinghouse for the Degree Verify project to meet new requirements from the Registrar’s Office and completed the design and implementation of a new data model to keep track of outside Interests and activities of students who receive grants from MIT.  Students are now required to fill out Online form about their interests and activities as well as to check a consent flag to share the info with Resource Development (i.e., the donors) yearly before they can receive the grant money.  Implemented the tables, data models, and processes.  This is currently in user test and will be rolled out to the community on August 1st.

Managed Data Services

MDS- OTI. Completed part 1: database configuration and design for the Online Textbook Initiative project.

MDS-OME: Completed database backend development work in support of DCAD’s Phase II development project for OME.

MDS-Abandoned Property:  Completed the design, development and implementation of an MDS Abandoned Property application and database to make it easier for the VPF Office to comply with new state regulations.  This is currently in user acceptance. Also, began the design of historical snapshots.

Worked with Server Operations to migrate two MDS databases and servers (development and production) onto one MDS server with two operating system environments (dev and prod) and two database instances (mdsd and mdsp).

PerMIT project was shut down.  Completed the Roles design for the Math Dept blogs project.  Built a data feed program on the test Roles Database to build a hierarchy of academic courses and subjects from the Data Warehouse. This Subject hierarchy will be a prerequisite for Authorizations for the Math blogs project and also a planned online grading project
