Subj:   Kerberized printing - retirement date at MIT announced

Information Services & Technology (IS&T) will no longer require that Kerberos authentication (KLPR) be used for print jobs submitted to the public Athena cluster printers effective Friday, August 31st, 2007.  This decision has been reached in collaboration with the MIT community and based on feedback for greater support for the latest Windows and Macintosh operating platforms with our enterprise printing services.  The removal of the Kerberos authentication requirement (KLPR) for printing to these public printers, will allow the MIT community to use native printing software, made available as part of the Windows and Macintosh operating platforms, and provide greater flexibility in printing support going forward.  IS&T continues to work with the MIT community to ensure we continue to provide the highest levels of IT services to MIT, and we welcome your continued feedback and support.
