General
Grade Calculations
There are two ways in which grades can be calculated, by Numeric Total and Average. This setting only affects grade to date and category grades. It does not affect assignment grades.
- Numeric Total - Grades are displayed as numeric totals (sums).
- Average - Grades are displayed as percents and grade weighting is used.
To set category and assignment weights you must use Average for grade calculations.
Cumulative Grades
This setting determines how grade to date and category grades are calculated.
- Based upon approved and unapproved grades - Grade to date and category grades will be calculated by both approved and unapproved grades.
- Based upon approved grades only - Grade to date and category grades will be calculated using approved grades only.
Class Grades
Class Grades will be:
- Automatically Derived - Class Grades will be calculated automatically based on the grade to date.
- Manually Entered - Class Grades are to be manually entered by staff.
Enable Attendance
Checking this box will enable Attendance.
Enable Early Warning System

Grading Schemes
Default Grading Scheme
This setting changes the grading scheme of the Uncategorized category, which is the default category. The grading scheme of the Uncategorized category can also be changed via the Categories section of the Settings page.
Grading Scheme Table
The grading scheme table defines the relationship between letter grades and numeric grade values. The table is used to compute:
- The student's overall Class Grades.
- Any grades automatically derived from letter-graded assignments.
Lower Bound
The lower bound is used when converting a any numeric grade to a letter grade.
Letter Grade | Lower Bound | Grade Range |
---|---|---|
B+ | 89% | |
B | 81% | 81 - 88.99% |
B- | 80% | 80 - 80.99% |
C+ | 79% | 79 - 79.99% |
C | 71% | 71 - 78.99% |
In the above example:
- A student with a numeric grade of 86.54% would receive a B.
- A student with a numeric grade of 77.35% would receive a C.
Translate Value
Translate values are used when calculating numeric averages from letter grades.
Letter Grade | Translate Value |
---|---|
A | 95 |
C | 75 |
D | 65 |
In the above example, a student received the following letter grades: A, C, and D. To calculate a numeric average, the translate values for the three letter grades would be used:
( 95 + 75 + 65 ) / 3 = 78.33%
Categories
- Weight - The weight of the category. See Grades and Grading for more information on category weights and grade calculations.
- Grading Scheme- How the category average will be displayed.
- Numeric - Category average will be displayed as a percent (ex. 95%)
- Letter - Category average will be displayed as a letter grade (ex. A+)
Assignment Weights - How assignments within the category will be weighted.
To set category and assignment weights you must use Average for grade calculations. This column will be hidden when Numeric Total is used for grade calculations.
- Equal Weight - All assignments within the category are weighted the same (default of 1).
- Manually Set - Each assignment is assigned a weight during the assignment creation process.
- Drop Lowest Grade - The assignment with the lowest grade will not be counted in grade calculations.
