Problem Statement

Applying for jobs these days is very complicated. A job seeker can potentially apply to dozens of companies seeking a job. These companies have varied application requirements which include filling out forms, corresponding with several people, and providing documents such as resumes, transcripts, and cover letters. The job seeker must manage these documents and make sure he meets all of the application requirements. If the job seeker is applying to different industries, he may even have multiple versions of his resume to keep track of in addition to cover letters for each company. Also, the job seeker would like to keep track of all his correspondence with company representatives including emails, phone calls, past interviews, and scheduling for future interviews as well as store contact information from any business cards he receives during his correspondence.

Managing the previously described documents and information is tricky for to do for just one company, let alone many at once. Currently, a user might use Outlook to store contacts, Google Calendar to schedule interviews, Yahoo to send emails, his cell phone to talk to recruiters, and his floor to collect the business cards he might never look at again. A job seeker lacks a way to collate and manage the information he collects between platforms and effectively organize his job search. This lack of organization leads to the job seeker wasting valuable time that he could be spending on academic or social activities. Furthermore, the difficulty of coordinating job seeking efforts with multiple companies in parallel might lead to the user considering fewer places and thus potentially sacrificing an unknown dream job or offer negotiation opportunity.

JobTracker is a platform that a job seeker can use to coordinate his job seeking efforts. It provides a framework that allows the user to organize his documents and create profiles for companies he wishes to apply to. For each company, the user may create to-do lists, contact lists, and schedules as well as track contact histories and his current stage in the recruitment process. JobTracker aims to make job searching more efficient by giving the user the tools to effectively organize his search.
