Note
There are many different ways this app can be used, corresponding to different situations, sources, and personalities, as well as capabilities of the app itself.
Ideally, our app will be able to do the following generation methods:
- Take, filter, and label photos
- Take, filter, trim, add sound, and export as video or gif
- Take existing images and video and apply the same effects
The following scenario goes along the first method.
The Scenario
Jonathan Lim is a third year student at Massachusetts Institute of Trollology. He is majoring in Business, with a concentration in Marketing. He's been immersed in internet culture for about 6 years or so, and he's a very enthusiastic participant in the community. This being so, he'd really love having the ability to generate some memes, so he downloads our app onto his trusty iPhone 4s.
Later that day, Jonathan is eating dinner with his friends at Thailand Cafe. He remembers that he downloaded this app and wants to poke some fun at his friends, so he pulls out his iPhone. Before opening up the app, he's faced with Task #1, Obtaining a source of humor. Jonathan's friend Jim borrows money from his friends a lot because he loses his wallet quite often. Whenever he has to ask for money, he always starts out with: "Hey best friend buddy old pal, remember that time we..." and tells a story about how close you are. Then he ends with "...by the way I need to borrow 5 bucks". Jonathan thinks it's pretty funny so he decides to capitalize on that. He opens the app and is presented with a temporary loading screen, and subsequently the home page, which has a number of icons including "Photo" and "Video". He isn't really feeling particularly inspired, so he selects the photo icon on the home screen and a live stream of the iPhone camera appears, with an overlay display two imaginary "text regions" and a circle for an ideal "head size". He lines up the photo and takes the shot of an unsuspecting Jim.
Now that he has completed Task #1, he now has to face Task #2, Processing data. Having just taken a photo, he is presented with two options: to retake the photo or to move on. He's okay with the photo, so he clicks move on. Now he is presented with three options: to crop, filter, or label. He decides not to filter his photo at all, deciding that it will be funnier for himself and his friends if they can easily recognize each other. This meme won't be for widespread use, it's just between friends. He managed to line up his photo pretty well (he's got a good eye for photography) so he doesn't need to crop it either. For this case, he just completed Task #2 (choosing not to do anything). Now he must face Task #3, Labeling/Categorizing humor. He clicks "Label". He is now presented with the photo and two draggable text boxes. He clicks into the top text box and writes "Needs to borrow money". He clicks into the bottom text box writes "Heeey buddy old pal, best friend, man..", and adjusts the sizing and positioning of the two boxes. Finally, he clicks "Finish". The app shows a small "processing" animation.
Now that he has finished Task #3, he is presented with a finished product. His meme is ready to be broadcast to the world, which is Task #4, Publishing. First he shows it to his friends, and they all share a hearty laugh. Having confirmed that the content is indeed funny, he looks back at his iPhone. The screen shows the finished product, and a "Share" button. He clicks the share button, and having previously set up Facebook integration, decides to post it to his Facebook timeline. The app displays a small loading icon, and moves to a "Done!" screen, at which point his options are to make another, or view his history of uploads. He doesn't want to do either of these, so he locks his phone and goes back to socializing.
With that, he's done using our product.
