Problem Statement

The need to annotate webpages and to share the annotations is ubiquitous. In college setting, a student often prints out a webpage (e.g., a Wikipedia entry) and then annotates on the paper copy; later on, this student might share the annotated material with other students, who will make further annotations. In the work environment, an annotated and shared online manual would benefit both experts and novices by expediting their information retrieval process and learning from annotations by other people. Unfortunately, in both examples, the lack of a centralized software renders the annotating/sharing process clumsy (e.g., converting to paper copies) and slow (e.g., sharing via email exchanges).

Our goal is to make a tool that consolidates the process of annotating and sharing webpages. This would allow the users to annotate a webpage without converting it to a suitable format first. Moreover, users will be able to share annotated webpages among themselves fast under the same software setting. In other words, our tool enables collaborative sharing.

  1. GR4 comments:

    "Wiki presentation
: Very clear and precise notes about fidelity of prototype.
Usability: Cool highlighting popup, although the light green is a bit hard to see. Highlighting and color of inserted comments are almost too similar in appearance - may be confusing. For dashboard, may be showing reduntant information by listing same names under Editors and Viewers. Technically, if you are an editor, it is assumed you can view. Perhaps making the two groups mutually exlcusive will be more clear. Nice use of affordances.

  2. Great job overall! It was a pleasure to see your project evolve over the course of the semester. I hope much was learned throughout the iterative design process. Although your project had minor shortcomings for the backend implementation, I don't think it detracted from what was learned about front-end design. Also, thank you for making your GRs super readible and keeping your wiki page so well maintained.
