Neophytes - GR2: Designs

High Level Goals from GR1:

- Create a customized exercise program quickly
- Modify an existing exercise program
- Track athlete’s progress
- Share exercise program with athlete
- Share an overview with the Head Trainer
- Collaborate and use exercise programs designed by other trainers
- Provide cumulative statistics on therapy programs

Scenario

Jimmy Saunders is a star freshman on the MIT varsity team. This afternoon, Jimmy came into the training with moderate pain in the back of his knee after getting chop blocked during a football drill. Jimmy has some swelling and pain walking. Richard, the football athletic trainer, tells Jimmy to hop up on a seat and Richard diagnoses the injury. Richard concludes that he strained two muscles that will require three weeks of rehabilitation and physical therapy.

The following afternoon Richard finds twenty minutes in his busy day to design the physical therapy program for Jimmy and three other athletes. He recalls a similar injury and exercise regimen for Bobby Bean, but Richard cannot remember the exact exercises he prescribed. Richard logs into the training room program and pulls up the exercises for Bobby Bean. Richard quickly modifies the program to include several new exercises. He also notices several great exercises that Philine, another athletic trainer, has recently prescribed and adds these to Jimmy's program. Richard easily finishes designing Jimmy's and the other three programs in the twenty minutes.

Richard's student trainer, Carlos, is in charge of supervising Jimmy through his physical therapy. Carlos has only been a student trainer for four days, and he is quite unfamiliar with the exercises. Luckily, Carlos can use the system to see the exercises and points of emphasis. Carlos becomes comfortable directing Jimmy and correcting his form. Within two weeks and way ahead of schedule, Jimmy is back to 100% healthy and can play football again.

  1. Scenario: Very clear scenario description. Motivated by the goals from GR1, concretely described in terms of the sequence of steps.
Individual Designs: The sketches were clearly shown, and there was significant variation between the proposed designs. The stretches such as those for illiterate users or being ultra-efficient were present and good.

Storyboards: Good synthesis of the invidual designs into the final designs for the storyboards. There is certainly variation between the designs too. Good descriptions with accompanying screenshots. It was also good to see the analysis being performed for each proposed storyboard design! Great! he analysis for each esign could have benefitted from being very explicit in applying the concepts that we've learnt from class (e.g., learning by exploring, internal consistency and external consistency of widgets used compared to those used in other systems, Fitt's law in some UIs, KLM for those that require combinations of key-presses and clicks, etc.) Otherwise, great work!

    Studio presentation: Nice!

Wiki Presentation: Having the text at the top for the storyboards, followed by images below made it a little difficult to navigate (kept having to remember where I left off with the text, followed by the images). Try using a tabular format next time?
