Problem Statement

When students come into MIT, they are greeted with a large number of options for majors and classes. Once students declare a major, there are still lots of confusing requirements to navigate, and changes inevitably happen (classes being canceled, schedule conflicts) that force students to adjust their planned track. Currently, students who want to track their plan use tools like spreadsheets or text documents to tracks their progress which is generally cumbersome and inefficient. We aim to create an interface that will allow students to construct their 4-year plan and explore possible options, as well as update the plan to reflect these changes as they happen and enable easier replanning. In addition, the system will be able to suggest possible options to the user based on course requirements, class prereqs, and user-specified preferences about which classes to take in a given term.
