Problem Statement
Rowing coxens ordinarily rely on a simple device called the Cox Box to gather helpful data during a race. The Cox Box only tells them the stroke rate (in strokes/minute), but several other parameters would be useful for coxens to know in real time. The first task of this application is to provide an easily-visible interface to show not only stroke rate, but total race time, total number of strokes taken, and a plot of the position of the boat on a moving map in real time. Secondary tasks are to record all race data such that coaches, rowers and coxens can view the data and study the race after it has been completed. The recorded data will also contain an audio recording of the coxen throughout the race, to map spoken words to rower performance. This application will also be able to plot a previously recorded "ghost route" on the live GPS map such that a previous race can be followed. A third use for this application will be not on the boat itself, but in the hand of the coach in a chase boat. The only difference is that in coach mode, the coach will manually press a stroke button, as opposed to the application reading acceleration data from the boat. Our application will provide an easy-to-use and informative interface, with no hands required while operating in race mode.
