Language of the description of finding aid. Optional. Language and script of the collection description can be selected from drop down menus in ArchivesSpace in the Finding Aid Data section. While the field is optional in ArchivesSpace and EAD, language of description should always be added for interoperability and equity purposes.
For the Language of Description Note field, cite the language used in sentence form. EAD Markup may be included to specify the language and script. ISO 639.2 is the standard for 3 character language codes which may be included in the declaration as a langcode attribute. The script can also be included in the scriptcode attribute of language, codes should be taken from ISO 15924 Codes for the Representation of Names of Scripts. For finding aids containing multiple languages, add the main language and script of description using the ArchivesSpace dropdown menus. Add additional languages if a significant amount of description is in another language. Additional languages used must be cited in the Language of Description note field—use EAD markup to improve interoperability.
