Q3

(rcvd 4/30/2009)

VSLS continues to experience shortages of Matlab licenses for various toolboxes and purchased additional toolboxes on multiple occasions this quarter.  The continued orders for Matlab were higher than expected towards the end of the quarter.  The internal wiki for processing requests continues to be very helpful.  We have made progress to broad distribution of Visual Numerics IMSL and are going to make FileMaker 10 available as a download.
A considerable amount of work was done across the CSS Software area on the Software Grid as part of the new IS&T Website that will bring together the three major places customers have to search for services related to software from IS&T.
During the third quarter, the SWRT released updated version of existing software (Cambridge Structural Database 2009, VirusScan 8.6.1p1), completed release projects for new services (Exchange) and applications (SoftPhone, PGP Whole Disk Encryption), and laid the groundwork for some large, upcoming releases (Mac OS X 10.6, Windows 7).  The team also responded to 114 RT requests, most relating to Microsoft Licensing.

-->For the Software Area:

We are excited to welcome Andrew Munchbach to the Mobile Devices Team this quarter.  Work continued on a number of projects related to the Microsoft Exchange work including release projects with Exchange for Outlook 2007, Entourage, Outlook Web Access (OWA) and various mobile devices.  With the changes in the Softphone realm, we have pulled the Software resources back from that work as the scope and direction are worked out so that they can work on other projects in the meantime.  The area has had major involvement in several other upcoming service offerings including PGP Whole Disk Encryption as part of the High Impact Data Protection project and Athena 10.  We are looking forward at future products by exploring betas of Internet Explorer 8 and Windows 7, both due out in 2009.  The Matlab distribution business has been booming with an ongoing stream of requests for new licenses and additions to existing licenses.  We continue to adjust Matlab processes related to the Mathworks Activation scheme and are planning improvements for the next year.  Volume and Site Licensed Software billing is finally caught up and we are on a monthly billing schedule going forward.
