Old subject pages - Looking at guidelines from http://libstaff.mit.edu/web/guidelines/subject.html

  • Selector's Info = Profile box
    • Use photo guidelines from http://libstaff.mit.edu/web/guidelines/photos.html
    • If photo is not used, what can go in this box?  Can have this turned off unless people add a photo?  Maybe use dome logo? Photo is not required.
    • What to call the Profile box?  The default is My Profile.  Create list of 5 or less recommended titles for this box.  Such as:
      • Ask Us
      • Subject Specialist
      • Dewey Library (or other library name)
      • Keep default "My Profile"
    • Want to change pronouns in this box to singular or plural.  Also change "view other guides" to something more intuitive
    • Can there be other information on this page, maybe more personal info?  Interests, hobbies, etc.
    • Names - have the same as current subject pages.   Only include your name in the "Display Name" field.  Can create a link in this field, using html code.
    • Chat  - enter if you have an account and want to use it.    Can also embed a Meebo widgit, use colors Black, meebo, mac, meebome.  Size regular.
    • Contact Info:  office numbers not required. Enter Library and add code to link to libraries (if wanted).  Phone number required, users can decide which number to use.
    • My Subjects, Libguides automatically links them to search for those guides.  Not sure what this is searching.  Ask if we can NOT link these.  If we must link them, then determine what these links do/go to.  A page must match each subject listed in the profile.  Does link search for that term within a page?  Need to investigate more and determine how to use this.   These links are confusing!! 
      • If we do NOT use the "My Subjects", can we add subjects somewhere else on the profiles page?  Contact info seemed to have a character limit.  Maybe suggest people add an additional box under the profile box with subject info.
    • What to call "View Other Guides"?  This takes user to more detail on the Profile and the pages created by that person.    Change name to "My Profile" or "More about me" or "Other guides by me/us" or "My other guides"
    • IF MORE THAN ONE LIBRARIAN works on a page, rotate profiles between profiles.  Is the limit 4 people?  Need to check.  Is this a recommendation?  We will give the option, but not require.   Can also close Profile box entirely if that works, and create a box in that section of the guide with contact information.  Contact information is REQUIRED in the top right.
    • What to allow staff to link to from their profile?  Keep like the links in the staff directory?  This is OK as long as it's work appropriate.
  •  ASK MARION how dummy pages will be set up.  Will new accounts be created for each person so they are attached to their guide?  Maybe do this in the training, have people copy the page to make them their own.
  • Remlee will start to incorporate all these suggestions into a Guidelines page
  • NEXT MEETING:  talk about Tabs, boxes, when to use pop-up bubbles etc.
