ASIT Vibration Test

Location: Car during Tow Test

Safety Precautions:

  • Everyone must wear safety glasses

  • Inspect the mechanism prior to the test to ensure its assembled properly and the springs are compressed

  • Maintain a safe distance away from the mechanism during testing to prevent injury in case the mechanism separates

Goal:

To ensure the ASIT mechanism doesn’t separate, the springs stay compressed, and components don’t loosen during vibration.

Materials:

  1. Car

  2. Mechanism

  3. Camera

  4. Cardboard box, slightly larger than the mechanism

  5. Duct tape

Testing Procedure:

  1. Duct tape the box to the trunk of the car, leaving the opening exposed

  2. Place the mechanism in the box so it has room to move

  3. Test three times, increasing from 20 to 40 to 60 mph with each test.

  4. Record video and watch for damage or separation

  5. Inspect mechanism after each test and ensure components haven’t loosened

  6. Test mechanism after all tests are complete to check that it still functions properly

Results:

  • No labels
