Here we describe the results of CFD analysis regarding two models of AeroShells.
The 'OLD' model was previously used on rockets, and has a design resembling the following:
The 'NEW' model is in current development, and has a design resembling the following:
CFD analysis (SolidWorks Flow Simulation) at two speeds, Mach 1 and Mach 2, allow us to compare aerodynamic properties of the two designs.
Below is a table (1) describing the results, indicating which model is superior, and what the 'NEW' model's value is as a percentage of the 'OLD' model's corresponding value.
Goal | OLD | NEW | Percentage |
---|---|---|---|
DynamicPressure | ⛌ | ✓ | 90.5%±1.5% |
Force (Net) | ⛌ | ✓ | 61% |
Force (X) | ⛌ | ✓ | 68.5%±.5% |
Force (Y) | ⛌ | ✓ | 61% |
Force (Z) | ⛌ | ✓ | 81%±3% |
Shear (Net) | ✓ | ⛌ | 107%±3% |
Shear (X) | ⛌ | ✓ | 40%±10% |
Shear (Y) | ✓ | ⛌ | 395%±21% |
Shear (Z) | ✓ | ⛌ | 104.5%±3.5% |
