Displacement:

Min Factor of Safety: 1.9

Notes

  • Previously, min safety factor ~0.7 → I increased the bonded areas around screws from 0.02” (radii) to 0.05” (radii) which made a big difference. There used to be a little red around the screw holes and now there is no red. How much contact area should I actually use?
    • Inside of hole now:
    • Note: I had to increase the contact area for ALL holes or it was mad :/ something about not being constrained. Also fixtures were mad but got fixed
  • Used recommended method for fixtures holes, most stress around the holes look like this:
    • However holes directly under the plates on the bottom frame look like this (there’s a little red):
  • Concerns: all the arms are still bonded. Problem?? Also need to do this with mission package tube/forces it will experience

Stress:

Displacement:

Min Factor of Safety: 2

Notes

  • This was run with the little arms bonded together where the screws would go instead of the whole thing being bonded
  • Displacement plot of arms:
    • Minor displacement but looks fine
  • Most stress still around bottom holes:
  • Next Steps
    • Try partially retracted
    • Try with ⅛” thick aluminum plates
    • Extend bottom frame
    • Maximize frame mass saving cuts

Stress:

Displacement:

Min Factor of Safety: 2.4

Notes:

  • Concluded that it does in fact experience less stress when plates are partially retracted (higher minimum safety factor)
  • Force at hole:
  • Next Steps
    • Try with ⅛” thick aluminum plates
    • Extend bottom frame
    • Maximize frame mass saving cuts
    • Try to get more to stick out of MPT
    • Add hole for wires

Stress:

Displacement:

Min Factor of Safety: 2.2

Notes:

  • Made plate ⅛” thick
  • made bottom frame slightly wider but not enough:
  • Next Steps
    • Extend bottom frame more
    • Maximize frame mass saving cuts
    • Try to get more to stick out of MPT

Stress:

Displacement:

Min Factor of Safety: 0.95

Notes:

  • Made arms longer
  • Made walls of aluminum spacer thinner
  • These holes not under as much stress
  • Unsure where the red is

  • No labels
