Insertion joints (or finger trapping) are used to make loops at the ends of lines. By inserting the cord into itself, the joint is much stronger than a knot. The process is shown below with 2500lb Technora cord, and a video tutorial is here.
- Cut a 1-2" long taper at the end of the cord by splitting the carriers and cutting off half of them.
- Mark three sections starting from the end measuring 7", 5.25", and then 7".
- Insert the insertion tool at the mark farthest from the end of the cord. Compress the cord to create an opening for the tool. Be careful not to poke through the other side.
- Push the tool through the middle of the cord and poke it out at the next marking.
- Put the tapered end of the cord through the insertion tool opening, ensuring the cord is not twisted.
- Pull the insertion tool and cord end through the cord, making sure not to lose the loop.
- Massage the outer cord over the inner cord until smooth. Pull the loop to make it bigger and repeat smoothing the cord until the end does not stick out.
