Overview of Sections

How to Tell You When You are on a Section Page

There are visual cues that indicate when you are on a section page:

  • All section pages have a style or design different from the main class pages. (The design and color scheme are the same in all section websites; an instructor cannot change the section design.)
  • The word "Section" is in all page names; for example, Section Homepage, Section Homework, Section Membership, and so on.
  • The navigation bar includes the word "Section" in all links to section pages.

Logging into Sections

As with a class Homepage, a section Homepage is public. If you log in to the class and then go to a section (to which you have access), you do not need to log in again. However, if you first go to the section's Homepage, you need to log in to gain access to other section pages.

Granting Access to Section Subsites

Instructors determine which class members have access to sections. To grant access to one section only, the instructor adds user names to that section's user groups. To grant instructors and TAs administrative access to all sections, add their user names to the class's user groups. For example, if a grader is to have access to all students' homework, add the grader to the Grader user group on the class Membership page. But if the grader is to have access only to the homework from one section, add the grader to the Grader user group on the section Membership page.

Section Materials

Materials from the main class page are by default included in the materials page of a section. However, one can choose to exclude the viewing of main class materials on the section page. To do so, go to the section materials page, and uncheck the box "include main class materials." This view will persist for the duration of your Stellar session.

Section Homework

Homework assignments that are posted to the main class website will appear on both the main Homework page and Section Homework pages. This is so the entire class can view and work on the same assignments. Course Admin who have access to the main course site can view all homework submissions.

Currently, section-specific assignments cannot be created from the section homework page.
