OVERVIEW

Project Spaces are web-based tools that help users Get Projects Done -  collaborate, organize, and distribute project-related materials..

USERS
Typical scenarios:

* Enable Sloan students to collaborate  on a class project
* Create a home base for an IS&T softare project, with space for issue tracking, documentation, user community, and news bulletins

TOOLS

Want to use open source software, not re-invent the wheel

Possibilities:

Trac - visit the site to see what it does, they're running their own package

* ActiveCollab,  " an easy-to-use, web-based, open source collaboration and project management tool"

* Drupal , which includes wikis, blogs, and forums

Source control is not included in this project -  MIT already has an SVN installation that works very well.

The good news is we don't have to find one tool that does it all. We can link to an svn repository or existing documentation from home base.  Teams are still free to use the tools that work best for them.

Old notes

  • We saw a demo of "Clearspace" by Jive, but it didn't excite us. It does the kind of thing we are looking for, but we'd like something more open source.
  • Requires a jazzy console to pull all the pieces together.
  • Must include a "discuss" alternative, plus a wiki and blog plugin.
  • uses MIT authentication (X509, Kerberos)
  • Sloan is desperate for this, and is in danger of buying Sharepoint to do it.
  • No labels
