TIME:

DESCRIPTION:
In his book The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century, Thomas Friedman examines globalization of industry. Companies can partner with industry or service providers across the globe due to 21st century communication technologies. The distance no longer is an issue as meetings can still be held through electronic means. In higher education, faculty and students are seeking opportunities to research and study abroad, yet degree or teaching requirements can often challenge this. The opportunity to travel abroad, or bring foreign researchers to the U.S. can be limited by the distance, yet the experience can be invaluable.

The purpose of this SIG will be to share and discuss how NERCOMP campuses are flattening their campuses by using 21st century technologies. At the end of the day, attendees will be encouraged to share their ideas, research, and ways they’re flattening their campuses in a short, informal lightening round of presentations. Attendees will leave this SIG thinking about new and innovative ways in which they can flatten their campuses using web conferencing, instant messaging, video conferencing, and other online collaboration tools.

"Assessment on a Shoestring"

For a full schedule and registration information, please go to:
http://www.nercomp.org/events/event_single.aspx?id=5818

FSXers interested:

PRICE:
NERCOMP Members: $128, Non-Members: $253

LOCATION:
Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center
Southbridge, MA.

DESCRIPTION:
It's often the case that IT staff want to assess a program or service, but lack the background, the expertise, or the resources to know where to start. The objective of this interactive SIG is to give participants the tools necessary to plan and carry out research projects on their home campuses. Participants will learn how to: formulate a research question; develop a research design, and evaluate the results. Emphasis will be placed throughout the workshop on finding ways to do assessment without needing significant resources.

Ease of use, cost, overhead, and scalability are all important factors that can separate a viable imaging solution from the pack.

Does your preferred or prospective solution allow for hardware independent imaging? Does it account for the growing popularity of Dual Boot Apple hardware? Are you looking for a solution that will allow for delegation a tasks to inexperienced staff or student workers? Or do you seek an option with advanced system management capabilities?

Speakers from schools including Swartmore, Simmons, Bowdoin and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, will discuss technologies and new developments in their field. Specific technologies discussed include Altiris, Windows Deployment Services, WinPE, Deploy Studio, and more.
