The purpose of creating this wiki is to efficiently crowdsource good ideas from the worldwide community, to improve upon MIT's Offshore Floating Nuclear Power Plant (OFNPPOFNP) concept. You can read an initial press release about the idea here. In essence, we developed this idea in response to the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi plant which began on March 11, 2011. We want to create a type of nuclear reactor that can "ride out" any earthquake, tsunami, or severe storm (typhoons, choppy seas) by being inherently resistant to their effects. It floats on top of tsunamis (whose wave heights are proportional to the depth of the ocean underneath) and is unaffected by earthquakes.
