Test Article: Test NC, from layup #1

BenchmarkTest Config.Environmental ParametersCriteria for Success
I. DAQ must be continuously operational under [TBD] F, [TBD] C
  • NC is mounted on a test jig to isolate it from the floor of the oven
  • DAQ is mounted on a test jig to isolate it from the floor of the oven
Records accurate temperatures (within expected 5 degree error, or allowable by reason) in SD Card and NAN Flash Memory for 8 min
II. Determine approximate thermal boundary conditions between inner wall and outer surface of NC at one selected node point
  • NC is mounted on a test jig to isolate it from the floor of the oven
  • DAQ is mounted on a test jig to isolate it from the floor of the oven
  • NC is plugged on both ends with insulation
Records accurate temperatures for the node point (within expected 5 degree error, or allowable by reason) in SD Card and NAN Flash Memory for 7 min

III. Epoxy joints must survive continuous heating up to 8 minutes
Same as above Sensor leads must feel secure when tugged after continuous heating.

Results

Test 1:

Time Conducted: 2:30 PM

Setup:

(Insert photo here)

Battery Voltage: 3.93 V

Time at 240 F: 24:30

Time kept at 240 F: 10:00

Data:

Conclusions:

DAQ survived test, recorded data onto SD card with minimal noise. Thermocouples feel secure after test.

Oven Temperature Tracking:

5:30 -> ~130 F

15.03 Oven reaches 240 F (test for 10 mins holding tempature at ~240 F (+/- 2 F)

 16.03-> ~240 F for a duration of 10 mins

Test 2:

Setup:

Battery Voltage: 3.7 V

Time kept at 240 F:

Notes

3/13/2019 (Diane, Miske, Juan):

  • Brought test NC w/ 6 thermocouples installed from lab to oven room in basement of 37
  • Discussed and outlined Oven Test above
  • "Wool" insulation, nose cone mold for support, foam cut outs for support, test for thermal coefficient, test for daq nominal operation

3/16/2019 (Diane, Miske, Juan, Shreeyam):

  • Used four (4) masonry blocks to support NC in oven
  • Used normal PVC insulation wire for power, route through thermocouple inlet
  • Mounted daq with Kapton tape on a masonry block
  • Created a NC template of the top and base of the NC by marking a trace on the insulation
  • Added Kaowool (ceramic based) insulation inside the base and top of the NC prior to oven insertion
  • Discussed preheating oven to 257 F (125 C) before powering on

3/20/2019 (Diane, Miske, Juan, Shreeyam):

  • Decided to record data during preheating anyways for possible reference against mysterious data collection
  • Tagged thermocouples to match to attachment points in NC
  • Thermocouple Labeling
    • TC1 = White Dashed, TC2 = White Solid, TC3 = Black Dashed, TC4 = Black Solid, TC5 = Gold Dashed, TC6 = Gold Solid
