Deployment Bags

  • Protects against heat/abrasion damage(Abrasion protection relevant if CO2 Gas system is used for ejection)
  • Most Efficient packing system
  •

Parachute Liners

Nomex Blankets

  • Simplest option of them all
  • Protects against heat/abrasion damage(Abrasion protection relevant if CO2 Gas system is used for ejection)
  • If heat damage becomes an issue, can wrap a Nomex blanket around a parachute liner for extra heat protection.

Recommendation:

Medusa Parachute Sizes

Sustainer

  • 1 drogue: 18 inch diameter
  • 1  main: 48 inch diameter

Booster

  • 1 drogue: 36 inch diameter
  • 1 main: 96 inch diameter

Based on the above factors and the change from single ejection, dual deploy to single ejection, single deploy it is recommended that parachute liners are used for all parachutes except for the the case of the Booster Main. This system is simpler than the parachute bags and if heat effects are detrimental to deployment an extra Nomex blanket can be wrapped around the Liner for extra thermal protection. The Booster main Poses a problem as the design limiting factor for this parachute is its size. Parachute bags are recommended for parachutes with a diameter greater than 7 feet in order to efficiently pack the parachute into the rocket. The booster main is so large it is reasonable to assume that an efficient packing solution(Parachute Bag) be employed to help save on space.
