NOTE: Requires 2 people to complete the test- one person to operate the pump, the other to watch the testing manifold and note leaks

Materials

  • Wrench
  • Vice grip
  • Testing Manifold
  • Firebolts
  • Pump
  • Hose and sink
  • Empty plastic container
  • Paper and pencil
  • Teflon tape

Procedure

  1. Clamp the manifold and use the wrench to screw in a firebolt into the testing holes, leaving one hole empty. Have one firebolt on hand for later.
  2. Wrap teflon tape around the hose attachment before screwing the hose into the manifold. Tighten with vice grip. Place the manifold in the plastic container to catch leaks
  3. Turn on the sink and allow the water to replace all of the air inside the manifold
  4. Once water starts to come out through the single remaining hole, screw in the final firebolt, Tighten with wrench
  5. Bring the pressure up to 1000 psi
  6. Watch for any firebolts that spring leaks from the epoxy (where the ematch is is placed) or from the wire and write down the serial number
    1. NOTE: if water leaks from the threads- the sides of the bolt- that is fine
  7. Release pressure and unscrew one firebolt to allow water to drain out
  8. If there are no more firebolts to test, lift up the hose to allow water to drain from it into the container
  9. Drain water from the container into the sink
  10. Remove firebolts from manifold and update Firebolts Log
    1. NOTE: be very careful when unscrewing the firebolts- there is a tendency to chip the heads during removal which is grounds for disqualifying the firebolt
